>Obama’s non-landslide victory

>There has been a lot written that Obama’s victory is a ‘landslide’.

Papers around the world had headlines to that effect.

It seems to me that they’ve redefined what a landslide is.

Here’s the result of the 2008 election:

Doesn’t look much different to Clinton’s 1996 result, does it?

Here’s a proper landslide – Nixon 1972:

And, of course, you’d expect Reagan to be at the top:

In the age of new media it’s probably unlikely that we’ll see anything like the blowouts for Nixon and Carter again but it’s clear that Obama’s victory was really quite the norm.

    >The actual Popular Vote was pretty close too. If memory serves, Obama got about 3or4% more votes than McCain. Hardly what you’d call a landslide.
